Ram Kishan Grewal

Here is all you need to know about Army veteran and OROP activist Ram Kishan Grewal, who died yesterday after consuming poison in protest against the delay of One Rank One Pension implementation.

Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal's suicide has shaken up the country to take notice of the OROP issue again. Rattled politicians are blaming one another, and social media has turned a hot bed for debates over the issue that was quite forgotten for a while now.
The saddest thing is, it took the death of a a veteran soldier to garner attention again.
WHO WAS RAM KISHAN GREWAL?
Ram Kishan Grewal was a 70-year-old Army veteran and an OROP activist from Haryana's Bhiwani district. He had served the Indian Army for 28 years before retiring as a subedar in 2004.
After retiring from Defence Security Corps, he became the sarpanch of his village in the Bhiwani district, Bamla, and under his tenure, the village changed for the better.
Subedar Grewal consumed pesticide on Tuesday on the lawns behind Jawahar Bhavan, the Ministry of External Affairs office, hours after he and other veterans failed to meet the defence minister to hand him a petition for an OROP scheme.
He died in RML hospital on Wednesday.
